Breadfruit

Regular price £2.49 Sale price

A staple food across tropical regions, the taste of cooked, ripe breadfruit is described as potato-like, or similar to freshly baked bread.

In Jamaica, breadfruit is mostly commonly eaten alongside the national dish of ackee and saltfish or as a side dish to many other classic Caribbean delights.

Traditionally baked in ground ovens or roasted over hot coals, Tropical Sun Breadfruit is pre-boiled and cut into chunky wedges, perfect for oven roasting and pan frying, or even both if you like your breadfruit extra crunchy. Simply rinse off the brine under cold water, season and cook to your liking.

A suitable taste of home

There are many places from which to purchase fresh breadfruit when it is in season. Unfortunately here in Scotland there is no fresh breadfruit any time! So when I found the product already peeled and ready to use, I was delighted. Our family and of course the fishermen we have at our house love it thinly sliced and fried until crispy. Lay it on a paper towel and lightly sprinkle sea salt on it. Does not last very long.......

Yummy!

Fried in oil the breadfruit tasted very nice and crispy.
Minus: the chunks are quite soft and easily brake.
